Essix Retainers

Following any type of tooth straightening treatment it is highly recommended that Essix retainers are worn to prevent teeth from relapsing. Whilst the gums may feel strong, the teeth are actually set in soft tissue and bone that can be manipulated and moved quite easily. This is great for straightening teeth, but it does mean that some time is necessary to allow the gums to stabilise following any tooth movement.

Essix retainers come in a 1-1.5mm clear polyproplene material for ultimate discreetness and are finished with a slim-fit and smooth feel, making the retainers easy to insert and remove. Essix retainers are designed to sit above the undercut of the gum, in severe undercut cases this will be blocked out prior to vacuum forming.

When not in use, it’s important to store Essix retainers in a special storage box which we will provide. This will prevent loss or damage and also help to keep it clean and hygienic. Essix retainers should also be kept away from strong heat or direct sunlight as this could cause changes to the shape and fit.

The flexible yet strong materials used are resistant to staining and odour, helping to keep the essix retainers looking and smelling great, however we would recommend regular cleaning with special disinfectant tablets to keep it fresh and free from bacteria.
